What is an arborist/arboriculturist?
An arborist is a specialist in the care of individual trees. Arborists are knowledgeable about the needs of trees and are trained and equipped to provide proper care. Hiring an arborist is a decision that should not be taken lightly. Proper tree care is an investment that can lead to substantial returns. Well cared-for trees are attractive and can add considerable value to your property. Poorly maintained trees can be a significant liability. Pruning or removing trees, especially large trees, can be dangerous work. Tree work should only be done by those trained and equipped to work safely in trees. Have a look at the ISA's Trees Are Good Website www.treesaregood.org. You should find an answer to most of your general questions. ISAAC does not run a consulting service and cannot provide specific advice. If you need more advice, please consult an arborist in your area.
Check our Certified Arborists list or look in the local media or Yellow Pages. When choosing an arborist look for someone who is qualified and has good references and insurance. A good arborist will give you advice about your trees, not just a quote to remove it. A good arborist will not perform bad practices, such as topping, even if you ask them to! Be wary of anyone who advertises lopping as this may indicate poor knowledge of modern, safe arboricultural practices.
