"Letter from the President"

Welcome to your special Christmas Edition of ISAAC E-news.

I don't know about you, but I can't believe another year has almost drawn to a close. 2004 has been a tough year for me, personally and professionally, but also one that has brought great rewards. In particular, my position as ISAAC President has allowed me to meet many more of you, my industry colleagues, than I ever would have before. I have had the chance to meet and talk to a wide range of people, from WA to Queensland, as well as from all facets of the industry. It has been a privilege.

One thing that has become evident to me during 2004 is the underlying strength of our industry in this country and the presence of a real drive to work towards unifying and focussing that strength for the benefit of trees, our communities and us. This was most clearly demonstrated by the meeting of 13 industry groups from around Australia, hosted and initiated by ISAAC, at our 2004 ISAAC National Conference. >From that meeting, the National Arboriculture Forum was formed, which is extremely exciting and something on which I'll elaborate in the New Year.

There have been many achievements made by ISAAC this year, but I am particularly excited by a few of them. We are now participating in four Standards Australia committees, we have surpassed first 250, and now 300 members for the first time during 2004, our website has become a popular source of information to members and the industry and our administration has become a strength under Sue’s care. This has been a great pay-off for some incredible work by some of our Directors and Sue.

Another personal reward has been working with a great bunch of people on the ISAAC Board of Directors. I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank all of the 2004 Directors – Craig Hallam, Clive Sorrell, Hugh Taylor, Doug Sharp, Martin Norris, Marcus Lodge, Rodney Page, David Galwey, John Cobbett, and Colin Thornton. I would also like to thank Marcus Lodge, who retired from the Board this year, for his service to ISAAC, and welcome new Directors Bruce Moorman and David Beattie, who were elected at our 2004 AGM. Last and most importantly thanks to Sue in the Administration Office for all the hard work and dedication she has given this year.

2005 promises to be another great year for ISAAC, but before we get there please enjoy a great and safe festive season with your friends and family.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and best regards,

Craig Hinton
