NSW Code of Practice for the Amenity Tree Industry You may be aware that in 1998 WorkCover produced a Code of practice applying to occupational health and safety in the amenity tree industry.  Changes to legislation have led WorkCover to consider revising this Code of practice. Concerns expressed by the industry about recent accidents have also highlighted the need to reconsider the safety recommendations in this document.  WorkCover NSW invites your organisation to nominate two representatives to be members of a Working Group that will revise the 1998 Code of practice: amenity tree industry. It is anticipated this will involve three or four meetings over a period of six months.  As a starting point WorkCover has drafted a revised Code of practice as a basis of further discussions with representatives of the industry. A copy of the draft Code of practice is attached for your consideration prior to the meeting. The draft was revised to include the application of current legislation, but we are keen to ensure it adequately reflects industry practice.  A copy of draft Terms of Reference for the Working Group is also attached.  Please send your responses to David Beattie at ISAAC by October 27, 2006 so that he can take them to the next industry representative meeting.  Information and documents are here http://isaac.org.au/news/nswcop.htm
 ISAAC Membership fee increase
Dear Member;

I would like to clarify ISAAC’s position in relation to the increase in membership fees for 2007. In a recent edition of The Bark I wrote that the ISA Board of Directors had decided to increase membership fees across the board. Whilst this statement is correct it was out of context. The facts are that ISA have increased their fees to all Chapters. Previously ISAAC and some other ISA Chapters received a subsidy, (we paid $94.00 US for each ISA member joining through the Chapter). The removal of the subsidy represents the increase, approximately 12%. The subsidy covered administration costs incurred by ISAAC servicing ISA members. The other driving forces behind ISAAC increasing membership fees were:

·         Chapter membership and relevant categories had not been reviewed since 1997 with significant CPI increases over that period, (see table below) and;·         Consideration by the board that Life Membership at the previous prices represented a considerable financial liability for ISAAC going forward.
